As everyone knows INE has made INC 5000′s list of fastest growing educational companies for two years running and we’re having our best year ever by roughly 30% over our 2011 numbers. With this growth INE is once again expanding. Starting mid-January 2013 INE will have a new office in RTP, NC. The office in RTP will be for sales and support so that means sales will be available starting from 6am EST (-5 GMT) in January. We’re also doubling the size of our datacenter in Reno, NV in January. We’ve signed the lease on the building next to our current Reno datacenter and are close to finalizing the RTP sales/support location. We’re looking for a mid-level rack support engineer for the RTP office location and for Reno. Hours would be from 6am to 2pm Monday through Friday for RTP and 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday for Reno. For the Reno location I’m willing to relocate the right candidate and their family within the US. These will be fulltime permanent positions.
Additionally I’m looking for four fulltime support engineers internationally. These engineers would be responsible for evenings (US time) and weekends. The ideal candidate would be located around the +1 to +6 GMT timezone (Nigeria, UAE, Egypt, India, Romania, Pakistan, etc). These will be hourly contract positions.
Without listing a bunch of standard HR type responsibilities and requirements, let me just sum these positions up. You need to be diverse in troubleshooting issues with a broad range of technologies (R&S, SP, SC, Voice, DC, Storage, Wireless, Linux, etc) to provide front line support for our rental equipment via phone, chat and email. Also you need to be able to integrate well with our existing team.
For our US locations we provide zero cost health care for you and your family plus relocation assistance. For all locations we will cover costs associated with obtaining your CCIE which includes travel, exam fees, etc. When you’re not busy answering chats, tickets, etc ideally you will be on the racks yourself studying for your CCIE. So what about pay for these positions? Pay depends upon ability and not necessarily just experience.

We had seen the official press release last week, but weren’t able to say anything until it became public today, and now the Learning@Cisco team has finally released the CCNA Data Center and CCNP Data Center certs for public consumption. A consolidated requirements page can be found here. One unique thing about these two is that they don’t require a standard CCNA (R&S) first as a pre-requisite. This makes sense, since this track has literally nothing to do with IOS. It also is largely because at the CCNA Data Center level, they are basically re-introducing you to every standard Ethernet and LAN switching concepts in the DCICN exam. Also, they seem to to be doubling down on the Cisco ACE, even though they are now partnering with, and recommending Citrix NetScaler to customers. Strange.
If I were a betting man, I’d wager that CCNA, CCNP and CCIE Video shouldn’t be too far around the corner as logical next steps for Cisco to release. Now, if you take a look at Cisco’s Career certs and learning paths, I wonder when they’ll finally fill in the CCNA and CCNP for Storage? My wager on that one would be … never.
While delivering what turned out to be a very successful UCS and Nexus 1000V class a week and a half back, a number of you on the east coast of the US got tragically knocked out of class due to Hurricane/TS Sandy. While the class had to go on, I received a number of emails later on the following week mentioning about the disappointment many of you had based on not being able to ask questions during the live class. So we’ve decided to run the class again, live, the week after next. So for any who were not able to attend the first time due to this or any other reason, or would just like to attend again (or simply have an opportunity to purchase it for the first time and still attend a live version of this class), we will offer it again beginning on Nov 26 and running through Nov 30.
For anyone who may not know INE’s teaching style very well – let me just tell you that you will not be bored to death-by-powerpoint. We’ll present a very few slides with key points to remember, but 90% of the content you will see will be live, hands-on configuration and troubleshooting. We test everything the box(es) have to offer. We’ll do static pinning, dynamic pinning, and port channels for both LAN and SAN, and verify and fail(over) everything to show exactly what’s going on. We don’t just do GUI (that’d be too boring). We verify everything in the NX-OS CLI, and the upstream Nexus 5548UPs and MDS 9222Is. We’ll boot from local disk, boot from SAN, and build ESXi 5 live on the blades and pizza-box C200 as well, while talking through a number of the recommendations from both Cisco and VMware on the box. Things like number of vNICs, vHBAs, when to enable failover or not to enable failover and on which vNICS – and when should you do these things on ESXi with standard vSwitches vs when you should do them on ESXi running on top of the N1Kv VEM module.
Also, watch this blog as we will soon announce dates for a few new classes I will be holding relating to some very real-world production network training. Things such as UC on UCS (actually building it – not just talking about it), as well as BYOD with Cisco ISE across Wireless, Nexus and Catalyst platforms, as well as an across-the-board QoS class that shows both relevant and similar comparison configurations spanning Catalyst 3550, 3560/3750, 6500 with many various model blades, and Nexus 5500, 7000 and even 1000 platforms. The QoS class is something I’ve been asked by students to do for a while now, and am quite excited to bring all the hardware together in a single class.

Tomorrow I’ll be releasing R&S CCIE Troubleshooting Lab 2 and I’m shooting for lab 3 on Monday or Tuesday. These will also be automatically graded just like lab 1. In fact my plan is to have ALL future R&S CCIE labs from INE automatically graded. It only takes 2 to 3 hours for me to input and test out the grading for a lab after the lab is written. The lab authoring interface on our grading system makes it easy for me to create and release a new lab and/or modify an existing lab. I’m really happy with the feedback we’re receiving with our new graded troubleshooting labs and I see this as a big part of INE’s future.

On Thursday Nov 1st at 10am PDT I’ll be holding a vseminar to kickoff our much anticipated R&S CCIE Troubleshooting labs, grading and rack rentals to the public. What I’m going to offer is a FREE troubleshooting lab, rack rental and grading to ALL of INE’s R&S customers. This means everyone who has attended an R&S bootcamp, bought an R&S workbook or an R&S video product from INE will have the ability to register for one of the troubleshooting sessions via their members site account after the vseminar next week. This is my way of saying thanks for letting INE help you achieve your goals.
The first troubleshooting session will be Friday after the vseminar and we’ve allocated 8 of our 16 full scale troubleshooting racks for the free sessions and the other 8 for standard rental to the public. Additionally next week I’ll be announcing our new Nexus online course that will cover the Nexus 7000, 5000 and 2000 series switches. Students will have access to a pod consisting of a 7010, two 5548s, and a 2232 to do the labs used in this course. This will be the perfect course for anyone working on Nexus in their day-to-day job or someone just starting out on their journey for the Datacenter CCIE lab.
